In 2006, a young gorilla named Shufai arrived at Ape Action Africa with gunshot wounds to his head and arm, his mother killed by hunters. Years of chronic pain followed, leading to the decision to amputate his left arm in 2013. Today, Shufai is the silverback of his own gorilla troop. His life did not follow the path it should have, but it did not end in 2006.

In 2004, an infant gorilla named Nona was found alone in a hunting camp in Cameroon. Her mother had been killed. She was the only survivor. More than twenty years later, Nona is a fully grown gorilla living within a stable social group at Ape Action Africa. Rescue was only the beginning.

Earlier this year we put out an urgent appeal to raise £2,000 to repair a deteriorating guenon monkey enclosure at our sanctuary in Cameroon. The fencing was rusted, sections were unstable, and the safety of our residents could no longer be guaranteed. Thanks to the support we received, the enclosure has now been fully rebuilt and strengthened. This is what your support makes possible.
