Visit our sanctuary

We love to receive visitors!

Visit Ape Action Africa and meet the magnificent great apes of Cameroon in a natural forest setting. Take a guided tour, lasting around 1.5 hours, and learn how we are helping to save Cameroon’s natural treasures.

Our sanctuary in Mefou Park is just 45 mins from Nsimalen Airport roundabout, Yaounde, and we are open every day of the week for visits at 9.30 am and 2.30 pm. Tours will begin on time and must be booked in advance. To book your visit call +237 6507 90747.

Entrance fees to the sanctuary are:

  • for international visitors - 10,000 CFA (adults) and 4,000 CFA (children - aged 6 to16 yrs)

  • for residents of Cameroon - 7,000 CFA (adults) and 2,000 CFA (children - aged 6 to16 yrs)

  • for Cameroonians - 2,000 CFA (adults) and 500 CFA (children - aged 6 to16 yrs)

  • for Cameroonian students (over 17yrs) - 1,000 CFA, with student ID

Fees include a tour of the park with our knowledgeable guides and go directly towards the care of our rescued primates.

Please note that masks must be worn throughout the tour, so please remember to bring one with you. You will not be permitted to take your tour if you do not wear a mask. Please do not visit the sanctuary if you are feeling unwell. You may be refused entry if you show signs of illness; this is for the safety of our primates.

How to get to Mefou

Heading south on the N2 road from Yaounde, towards Mbalmayo, our sanctuary is located in a forest, the turn-off for which is signposted at a village called Ekali II. The last 5 or 6km of the journey is via unpaved roads, and on rare occasions, heavy rains may make the road unpassable.

Please note that from time to time, we may need to close the sanctuary at short notice to carry out emergency procedures or due to adverse weather conditions. To check access on the day of your visit, contact us on +237 6507 90747
