Volunteer in Cameroon

We offer a limited number of self-funded volunteer placements for 1 to 3 months to people aged over 21 with a passion for primate conservation. This video gives a short overview of what it's like to volunteer at the sanctuary.

All our volunteers live and work at our Mefou forest site, home to over 120 chimps, 24 gorillas, and a whole variety of monkeys, taking the number of primates in our care to almost 300. The accommodation is very basic; it is very hot and humid, and volunteering for us requires flexibility, resilience, patience, enthusiasm, and a lot of dedication. However, the rewards of working with our amazing primates outweigh any difficulties you will encounter.

We must stress that you will NOT get direct, hands-on contact with the primates. Our policy is to minimise human contact with the primates other than when they initially arrive at the park, usually requiring 24-hour care for a period. Our Cameroonian caregivers carry out this job as this helps with the long-term recovery of the primate. You will, however, live and work very closely with them so you will still have a memorable time.
